Wile E. Coyote was created alongside the Road Runner for Warner Brothers by American animation legends Chuck Jones and Micheal Maltese. The duo would first debut together in the 1949 cartoon Fast and Furry-ous, and have been a hit ever since. Together they have appeared in over fifty cartoons in the last seventy-odd years, over multiple directors and animation styles. Pitched and scripted originally as a satire on “chasing” or “hunting cartoons,” the Coyote and Road Runner duo immediately took off not as satire, but as one of those very cartoon duos.

The cartoons take place in the American southwest which could be anywhere in the ballpark of Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. The layouts for the majority of the classic Road Runner cartoons were done by Maurice Noble, who is known for very grand, detailed layouts in his work with Chuck Jones from the 1940s throughout the 1960s. Those layouts would then be beautifully painted by background artist Philip DeGuard, a layout and background artist himself with an equally impressive filmography.

Personally I believe they function best in short bursts. There are only so many times you can watch the Coyote fall from a canyon or get hit with an anvil before you get a little… Tired of it. This is probably why in larger groups of the Looney Tunes in movies and longer stories most often the two are relegated to background set decoration, or incredibly minor supporting roles.

Discussion about Coyote V Acme is little to none as of right now given the lack of information and the state of journalism in relation to these larger studio projects at the moment. If/when the movie comes out, the site will be updated to reflect this and my personal thoughts on the matter.
