Out of the Frying Pan and Into the Fire

Posted: 02/09/2023

So. I'ts been awhile. Funny story, actually. Well, no, it's not funny ha-ha: it's funny what the fuck.

I live somewhere prone to wildfires, and while I was expecting to be just chilling out, typing away, maybe making some weird art on my vacation after an awful semester at school (if your program doesn't require economics courses, and you have no interest in economics: DO NOT TAKE IT. DO NOT TAKE ECONOMICS COURSES. I thought I WAS interested in this stuff and HATED IT) but that is not what the universe had in store for me. I spent half my actual vacation time evacuated. Which you know, everything could have been much worse, all things considered I'm quite lucky and I'm immensely grateful to have been able to come home.

Working On...

I finished the Heart Warmer Cowl, and I’m not sure how to feel about it. I like the colors, and I ended up rearranging the order the pattern chunks were in because I wanted to make sure the fancier stitch patterns were shown off by the solid green instead of mixed up by the busy variegated yarn. I used Ancient Arts Fibre Crafts Passion 8 in Dune Green, and Hewetopia DK/Sport yarn in Lavender Garden, both of which are merino wools (with a little bit of nylon mixed into the former). I think once it gets chilly and I can actually pull it out to wear it I’ll have a better idea of what I think of it. I’ll let you all know lol.

The Blowing Wheat Valance has been sitting untouched since about… I’d say April or so? I just haven’t had the focus to work on such a large filet crochet pattern lately. I have been making something small in the meantime to scratch the filet itch: it’s a little shelf curtain for my dedicated resin shelf. I made it using alternating solid and filled hearts based on the pattern Baby Edging A from The Filet Crochet Book by Chris Rankin (which I wholeheartedly recommend if you can buy it cheap or snag a PDF copy of it somewhere). You know what. One of these days I'll actually upload pictures for this stuff.

I've also been finishing up some ideas I've had for webpages and other stuff here, but again, I just need a bit to fully finish them as everything I start winds up spiralling out into something long and a little too exhaustive.

Anticipating...

We're going into the Christmas season at work, which is exciting for me because I get more hours lol. Let me tell you I am SO happy to not be in school until the next winter semester.

I'm gonna let ya'all in on a secret here, okay? I'm still incredibly excited for the Coyote movie. I have a shrine dedicated to him I want to finish for his birthday (it's September 17th, if you were wondering). But... I really don't think that the movie is coming out this year. I think they're gonna push it into 2024. If they write it off for taxes though.... I won't be surprised but I will cry. Probably a lot. Like a lot a lot.

Cold War, Cold Peace (1985)

Sexuality in Medieval Europe: Doing Unto Others (2012)

I've since finished Where the Girls Are: Growing up Female in the Age of Mass Media! I really liked it and it makes me want to read more similar books to it, but, it also made me want to watch Feud again which.... I don't need to do so... I also wound up reading Chuck Amuck: the Life and Times of an Animated Cartoonist and started Sexuality in Medieval Europe: Doing Unto Others. Both of those titles, as different as they are, are for recreational research (and you can see a LOT of the former in my latest shrine...). Anyway, I'm so glad to be done with the chapter on chastity. It wasn't a bad read, but it's not very interesting to me.

Cold War, Cold Peace on the other hand is still in time-out-wordy-book-too-similar-to-the-worst-class-I've-ever-been-in jail.

I have been having a blast watching WKRP. There is just something about it that makes me so so happy and it's just a nice little relaxing watch when I don't want to think too hard. My favorite character as an adult is Andy (obviously the first times watching it was Johnny), I love how distinctly they style him like a cowboy all the time. I wish Cincinnati was real...

Muppets Mayhem came out and... You know, I was hopeful, and excited and I really really tried. I wanted to like it. I love the band, particularly Teeth, and the new Muppet Penny was fantastic but... I don't know, I didn't like it, but it wasn't even that bad? I got two episodes in and just never picked it back up and I feel like I'm missing something seeing all the other Muppet fans so happy about it. Oh well, maybe it's just not for me. A new season of Justified has been coming out too, but I never finished the last season of the first show so... Probably should get on that.

I've been thinking of removing SPN from here since I'm not really actively watching it as much as I thought I was going to, it's been paused S1 for like... Over a year. But I'll keep it here just in case.

I'm also rewatching Mad Men but at this point it's more notable when I'm not rewatching Mad Men

Note: I'm trying some new formatting, and actually updating a little more... Personally, here, which is weird as hell but. Idk. If I really hate it I'll go back to more structured writing. Although, it is interesting to go back in time in a way and write more like an old deviantART journal update where I just kinda used to say whatever.
